Hocking Hills

The Camera Club had it second photo outing April 18-20, 2008, and though the turnout was small the location was amazing.   The credit goes to our member Rick Jackson for helping pull this together and convincing the group of what a perfect place this is for a photo outing. Images from the outing may be viewed at the lower part of this page.

Hocking Hills is located just north of Huntington and about a two hours trip.  Hocking Hills State Park is the most visited place in Ohio with over two million visitors a year.  It is easy to see why as soon as you start hiking around.  There are scenic overlooks, wildlife, waterfalls, and rock formations that just have to be seen to be appreciated.

This trip was different from our first outing as we all took up camp at a local hotel.  The members that attended all agree that next time we need to all share a cabin.

It just so happened that our second photo outing also coincided with a photo competition called "Shoot the Hills", which is sponsored by the State Park and Recreation Board.  I ended up participating in this because I wanted to experience what it was like to take part in a large photo competition.   The competition had over two hundred photographers taking part.  Some photographers had been competing in this event for years so the competition was intense.

The problem was the competition took me away from the spending time with the members who attended.  I regret this and will not make that mistake again.

The members that did attend spent the evening of Friday and most of the day Saturday exploring the park.  I meet up with them a couple of times and really enjoyed sharing ideas and watching what the other members where shooting.  I believe this is the wonderful part of these photo outings.

I believe that we will plan another trip to Hocking Hills in the near future.  Below is a like to the Hocking Hills Web Site.
