Welcome to the Ohio Valley Camera Club of West Virginia

The Ohio Valley Camera Club was started in 1958 when Willis Cook and Corbin Miller shared the idea of bringing amateur photographers together to share experiences and explore new ideas.

Throughout four decades, members of the Ohio Valley Camera Club have aimed, clicked and captured that “decisive moment“ to be shared by family and friends.

Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month. Photo print competitions are held during the first meeting of the month. Programs on various aspects of photography are scheduled for the second meeting of each month.

Selected topics are assigned to specific months during the year. The subject matter is varied to challenge the photographer. We have even had “scavenger hunts” to share artistic interpretation of particular subjects.

Photographs are evaluated based on composition, idea content, print or slide presentation, and print or slide quality.

Friendly competition at four levels, tyro (beginning), advanced, expert and master gives members the opportunity to compare skills. Recognition is given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and Best of Show at each competition meeting.

Constructive criticism is shared in a relaxed atmosphere. Each member can learn from the vast areas of expertise of fellow photographers.

Aside from enhancing their artistic and technical skills, members enjoy field trips and visits by guest speakers.

Club members also benefit the community by providing their talents to organizations such as the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation. Charitable organizations may want to contact the club for help with promotional photography.

Works of the club's members are frequently exhibited throughout the tri-state area. Several members have had prints published in area newspapers and magazines.

We welcome everyone interested in photography, especially those who want to improve their skills. We can learn by others' experiences.

Come to one of our meetings as a visitor. We feel confident you will want to become a member.
